Sydney Fish Market is offering a fun and interactive sushi-making experience designed especially for young food lovers aged 8 to 14. The hands-on class gives children the opportunity to explore Japanese cuisine while learning new cooking skills in a fun and supervised environment.
The session begins with an expert demonstration in the mini auditorium, where children watch staff prepare hand-rolled sushi cones, nigiri and maki rolls using fresh ingredients and sashimi-grade fish. They are also introduced to important kitchen safety skills, including the safe use of a knife and frying pan.
After the demonstration, children head into the kitchens to create their own dishes with guidance from experienced staff. Along the way, they learn practical techniques such as preparing, filling and folding dumplings, as well as peeling prawns like an expert.
The experience finishes in the dining room, where the young chefs can sit together and enjoy the food they have made. Parents can choose to drop off and collect their children or join the class by purchasing an additional ticket. Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult, while the class is not suitable for children under six.
