The LTC Preparation Course is a focused, one-hour program designed to help shooters gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed before attending the full Texas License to Carry (LTC) class. This preparatory course is ideal for individuals who want a clear understanding of the LTC process, including what to expect during the classroom portion, target requirements, scoring standards, and the structure of the shooting proficiency test. The course also reinforces fundamental handgun skills, such as proper stance, grip, sight alignment, breathing, and trigger control, ensuring that participants are comfortable and capable when it comes time for the official qualification. By reviewing these core concepts and practicing essential techniques, students gain both the mental preparation and practical confidence needed to succeed in the full LTC course.
A key component of the LTC Preparation Course is the opportunity to practice the shooting proficiency test itself. Participants will fire a total of 50 rounds at standard LTC distances: 20 rounds at 3 yards, 20 rounds at 7 yards, and 10 rounds at 15 yards. This hands-on practice allows students to familiarize themselves with the pace, accuracy expectations, and handling of their firearm under realistic testing conditions, helping to reduce anxiety and improve performance during the official test. Students are required to bring their own firearm and 50 rounds of ammunition, or they may use a rental firearm with on-site ammunition purchase. Eye and ear protection, a pen and paper for notes, and a drink are also recommended. This one-hour preparation session serves as an essential foundation for anyone planning to take the full LTC course, providing the skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary to approach the class with competence and readiness.
