Each session includes a kit featuring organic cotton fabric and hemp straps, with options to choose preferred colors. During the lesson, participants are guided through essential skills such as threading the sewing machine, cutting fabric, and creating basic seams using a straight stitch.
Additional techniques include finishing seams with a zig-zag stitch, hemming, and making squared corners. This hands-on approach provides a supportive environment where beginners can explore sewing while building confidence in using a sewing machine.
The lesson is led by fashion designer Andrea van der Kuil and is suitable for complete beginners as well as those looking to refresh their skills. Classes are held in Dutch and English in a friendly, collaborative setting, and from January all Sewing Café workshops, courses, and lessons will take place at the Amsterdam West location, offering a creative and inspiring space to learn.
