If you are curious about whitewater kayaking and have completed an introductory course but are unsure what to do next, this program is the perfect way to continue your adventure. Our river sessions focus on sharpening essential skills such as edging, setting angles, and performing eddy turns and peel outs. Using a strengths-based learning approach, we make kayaking exciting and rewarding from the very start, helping new paddlers gain confidence on the water. The emphasis is always on fun while teaching proper stroke techniques and responsible whitewater practices, ensuring every moment on the river is safe, engaging, and memorable.
A whitewater kayak becomes an extension of your body, fitting snugly to provide maximum control and maneuverability. After reconnecting with your equipment and the sport, we build upon foundational skills in the security of a calm pond. Participants review important safety techniques, including wet exits, and practice basic strokes such as sweep strokes, forward strokes, draws, and braces. Once everyone is comfortable in their boats, we move to flowing water to practice river maneuvers like eddy turns, peel outs, and ferries. This step-by-step approach helps paddlers refine their skills, increase confidence, and enjoy the excitement of whitewater in a safe and supportive environment.
