This intensive kayaking class is designed for participants who want to master wet exits, recovery, re-entry, and rescue techniques. The session is physically demanding, requiring full participation in the water. Expect plenty of swimming, pumping, and climbing back into half-submerged kayaks. Students will develop confidence handling their kayak in flipped situations, improving safety and self-reliance on the water. This course is ideal for those who want hands-on experience in challenging but controlled conditions, under the guidance of experienced instructors. It is not recommended for anyone uncomfortable with being upside down in their kayak. Those who feel hesitant are encouraged to first seek one-on-one instruction with a certified ACA or BCU instructor to build foundational skills before joining this course.
Participants may bring their own kayaking gear including kayak, personal flotation device, spray skirt, and sponge, or use equipment provided by the instructors. Essential accessories such as bilge pumps and paddle floats are supplied for use during the class. The instructors will guide each participant through progressive drills to build confidence, technique, and safety awareness. By the end of the session, students will have practiced multiple re-entry methods, self-rescue skills, and assisted rescues, preparing them for real-world paddling conditions. The course emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and water safety.
