This three day AIARE Level One Avalanche Course in Summit County is designed for backcountry travelers who want to gain essential skills to travel safely in avalanche terrain. The course blends online learning, an in person classroom session in Silverthorne, and two full days of hands on field training. Led by certified instructors with strong local knowledge, participants learn how to recognize avalanche hazards and make informed decisions in Colorado complex mountain snowpack.
Throughout the course, students practice using avalanche safety equipment, interpreting forecasts, planning routes, and managing group dynamics in real backcountry environments. Field days focus on observation, terrain assessment, and companion rescue techniques. As an Ortovox Safety Academy partner, students can use avalanche gear during the course. By the end, participants earn an AIARE certificate and leave with practical knowledge and confidence to continue their backcountry education journey safely and responsibly.
