This three day AIARE Level 1 Avalanche Course is designed to build a strong foundation in managing avalanche hazard for backcountry travelers. Colorado’s complex snowpack offers an ideal learning environment, attracting students from around the world. Through a combination of e learning, classroom sessions, and extensive field training, participants gain essential knowledge to recognize avalanche terrain, interpret forecasts, and make informed decisions. Instruction focuses on practical skills that enhance safety, confidence, and awareness while traveling in winter backcountry environments.
Led by experienced AIARE certified instructors with deep local knowledge, the course emphasizes hands on learning and real world application. Participants practice rescue techniques, terrain assessment, and group management during two full days on snow.
