Wilderness First Responder

We offer Wilderness First Responder certification and re-certification courses in partnership with Wilderness Medical Associates of Maine for outdoor professionals and enthusiasts. The Wilderness First Responder course is designed for those who spend time in remote areas where immediate help is not available. Unlike standard first aid classes, this course emphasizes hands-on learning through practical sessions, videotaped simulations, and mock victims to prepare participants for real-life wilderness emergencies. The course covers a full spectrum of wilderness medical scenarios, teaching participants to assess, stabilize, and treat injuries or illnesses in remote settings while relying on their training and judgment. It provides intensive, experiential learning to build confidence, skill, and readiness for challenging outdoor environments.

The WFR recertification or challenge course is for those maintaining their certification. It focuses on reviewing and testing core WFR skills, updates in treatment protocols, and includes a CPR refresher. Each day of the course runs with structured schedules including morning sessions, hands-on practice, and sometimes evening exercises such as video critiques or simulations. Students should expect active participation, homework, and collaborative problem-solving throughout. By completing the course, participants gain valuable skills, a deeper understanding of wilderness medicine, and preparedness to respond effectively to emergencies in remote locations.
