This full day tour begins at 9 am in Coimbra and takes you to Serra da Estrela the highest mountain range in mainland Portugal. The first stop is Sabugueiro the highest inhabited village in the country located at 1050 meters above sea level. Here you will enjoy a short walk through the village and learn about the Serra da Estrela Dog one of the oldest shepherd dog breeds of the Iberian Peninsula closely linked to local mountain life.
The journey continues through some of the most iconic locations of the mountains including Mondeguinho the source of Portugals longest river the village of Manteigas considered the heart of Serra da Estrela and headquarters of the Unesco Estrela Geopark the impressive Zêzere Glacier Valley and Covão da Ametade. Reaching 1996 meters you arrive at Torre the highest point of the range where breathtaking views silence and dramatic landscapes define the experience. On the way down you pass the Ski Resort Lagoa Comprida and Senhora do Desterro. You will also have time to taste the famous Serra da Estrela cheese on your own along with local sausages. The tour returns to Coimbra around 5 pm.
