After pickup in Coimbra the tour heads to Aveiro less than one hour away. The experience begins with a relaxing 45 minute ride aboard a traditional Moliceiro boat once used to collect seaweed and transport salt. Sailing through the urban canals you will understand why Aveiro is known as the Portuguese Venice. The journey continues on foot through the historic fishermen neighborhood and past elegant Art Nouveau buildings that earned the city recognition as the Art Nouveau museum city of Portugal.
The tour then continues to Praia da Barra where you will see the mouth of the Vouga River and the calm beach protected by stone barriers ideal for families. Here you can admire the Aveiro Lighthouse the tallest in Portugal and second tallest in the Iberian Peninsula. Next stop is Costa Nova famous for its striped colorful houses once used by fishermen as storage and now a unique coastal attraction. After enjoying the scenery the tour returns to Coimbra. On Wednesday afternoons it is possible to climb the lighthouse and enjoy panoramic views from the top.
