Foi assim que Miguel Torga o descreveu... "É bonito o Alva! Manso, claro, calado, sem a tragédia do Doiro, nem a grandeza do Tejo, é bem o rio da Beira que define a Beira. O Mondego envenenou-se em Coimbra dum lirismo de borla e capelo, que o comprometeu; o Zêzere deu-lhe para uma retórica de sermão do encontro, que lhe tira o sentido; o Ceira, com a façanha do Cabril, esgotou-se. De maneira que ficou a representar a sua terra, a Beira das ovelhas, dos pinhais e duma tenacidade sem palavras, este veio de água pura, que desce da Estrela, toca um milheiro, ou dois de rodas, lava os avós, os filhos e os netos da mesma família e acaba pudicamente quando tem a missão cumprida." Eu acho que nada mais há a acrescenta.

Rio muito bonito com muitos pontos de interesse, ainda se pescam boas trutas, no entanto devido as barragens e represas a qualidade da água não é a melhor. Aconselho

O rio Alva é um afluente do Rio Mondego que nasce na serra da Estrela, numa dimensão de 106 km. No percurso deste rio encontram-se belas praias fluviais e de excelente atualidade. Arganil dispõe da ponte do Sarzedo e de muitos outros pontos com interesse que são retratos da passagem do rio Alva.
