The Laya-Gasa Trek is one of the most scenic and challenging treks in Bhutan, covering 217 km over 17 days from Paro to Gasa. The route passes through alpine meadows, high mountain passes, dense sub-tropical jungles, and remote villages inhabited by the Layap people, offering a glimpse into their unique culture and traditions. Trekkers may spot native wildlife including blue sheep and Takins while enjoying the pristine landscapes. The trek includes a day of relaxation at the famous Gasa hot springs, providing a chance to rest and rejuvenate. Participants will experience full-service camping with provided tents, meals, porters, ponies, and certified guides.

This trek is physically demanding with altitudes ranging from 2500m to 5000m and steep ascents and descents, so a good fitness level is essential. Travelers should pack light for daily trekking and carry only personal essentials while extra luggage can be stored at the hotel. Essential items include sturdy hiking shoes, trekking clothes, layers for warmth, rain gear, water bottles, first aid kit, camera, and personal medications. Proper preparation and awareness of altitude effects are important. The trek is best attempted in April to June and September to November when weather conditions are favorable and landscapes are most stunning.
