McCully Basin Offers Secluded Backcountry Skiing in Eagle Cap Wilderness

McCully Basin, located within the Eagle Cap Wilderness Area, is offering skiers a remote and historically rich backcountry experience dating back to 1980. Known for its solitude and untouched alpine terrain, the area attracts visitors seeking fresh tracks and a true wilderness escape. The journey into the basin sets the tone for an immersive mountain adventure.

Access to the camp involves a gentle four-mile approach with an elevation gain of approximately 1,800 feet. The trail winds through dense forest with minimal switchbacks, gradually opening into expansive alpine scenery. This approach enhances the sense of remoteness and prepares skiers for the varied terrain ahead.

Once inside the basin, visitors encounter a diverse range of skiing conditions suitable for different skill levels. Terrain options include low-angled gladed meadows, moderate north-facing bowls, and non-technical summits, along with occasional black-diamond chutes. Accommodations at McCully Basin include two sleeping yurts equipped with wood stoves, cots, and foam pads, each accommodating up to five guests.
