Big Sheep Camp offers a unique backcountry experience located behind Wing Ridge, accessible via Salt Creek Summit, the highest SnoPark in the Wallowa Mountains at six thousand two hundred feet. The journey to camp involves traveling approximately three miles with light day-packs over a seven thousand five hundred foot saddle along Wing Ridge Trail 1828. This route eliminates the first-day slog to camp and allows guests to enjoy skiing or exploring on the way to and from the camp, which sits at six thousand four hundred feet on the 100 road. For those who prefer not to carry heavy gear, porter service is available for a small fee, while more adventurous guests can carry their own load and take a flat four mile route via the Wagon Road Trail.
The camp includes two separate sleep cabins designed to accommodate different groups of up to six guests each, with shared facilities including a twenty foot kitchen yurt and sauna. Exclusive use of the camp is available for groups of up to twelve people, providing privacy and a full backcountry experience. This combination of comfortable accommodations and access to remote trails offers a perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. Guests can enjoy the beauty of the Wallowa Mountains, outdoor activities, and the communal atmosphere of a well-equipped backcountry basecamp, making it ideal for small groups and winter sports enthusiasts seeking an immersive mountain experience.
