The Guachimontones Tour offers a six-hour journey to explore one of western Mexico’s most fascinating archaeological sites and learn about the ancient Teuchitlan tradition. Participants are picked up from Guadalajara and transported to the town of Teuchitlán, a cradle of early civilizations surrounded by natural beauty. The tour begins with a visit to the “Phil Weigand” interpretive museum, where an introductory video and exhibits explain the origins of the Teuchitlan tradition, including its construction techniques, political life, agriculture, religious beliefs, and ceremonial ball games. Visitors gain insight into the cultural and historical significance of this civilization while enjoying the stunning views of La Vega Dam, surrounding agave fields, and the town itself.
After the museum, guests will climb to the archaeological site featuring circular pyramids known as guachimontones, with their monumental stepped conical structures and central circular patios. Participants can take photographs and explore the area at their own pace before returning to Guadalajara. The tour includes round-trip transportation, certified guides, access to all mentioned sites, and bottled water. Guests are advised to wear comfortable clothing and shoes, bring sunscreen or a hat, and be prepared for moderate physical activity. This tour operates on Sundays and Wednesdays and requires a minimum number of participants for departure.
