The LPS and Porcupine Rim trail system, forming the lower half of Moab’s iconic Whole Enchilada Trail, offers an exhilarating ride for advanced mountain bikers. Starting on the Lower Porcupine Singletrack (LPS), riders navigate singletrack paths that traverse the rim before flowing into ledges, rock features, sharp turns, and drops. Early in the ride, a fork presents two challenging options: The Notch, a steep and highly technical route recommended for the most experienced riders, and The Snotch, featuring an off-camber, rocky switchback leading into a technical slab. Both routes converge at the Porcupine Rim overlook, a perfect spot to rest, take in views of Castle Valley, and snap photos. Continuing along the Porcupine Rim Trail, riders encounter fast rock gardens, sandstone shelves, boulders, optional drops, and an exposed singletrack section with breathtaking views of the Colorado River, ending at the Porcupine Rim Trailhead River Parking Lot near the Grandstaff Campground.

For those seeking an extended ride, a short pedal from the drop-off point provides access to the Upper Porcupine Singletrack (UPS), which includes Upper, Middle, and Lower sections, offering a substantial ride without committing to the entire Whole Enchilada. Riders can park at Rim Cyclery in downtown Moab and should arrive 15 minutes before departure for bike loading. The desert environment is harsh, often extremely dry and hot, so riders are advised to bring at least 100 oz. of water per person, ample snacks, headlamps, extra warm layers, and keep their bikes in top condition. Additional essentials include spare tubes, pump, tire patch kits, tools, lube, windbreaker or waterproof jacket, sunglasses, sunscreen, fire starter, first aid kit, and a cell phone. Leave No Trace principles should be followed, and riders should be aware that the shuttle only runs with a minimum number of participants and e-bikes are not allowed.
