The Magnificent 7, or Mag-7, trail system is a must-ride for every mountain biking enthusiast visiting Moab. This network of trails links the upper and lower portions of Gemini Bridges Road and offers a variety of routes to explore, though it is best experienced as a 26-mile point-to-point ride using the shuttle. Riders can connect trails including Gemini Bridges, Bull Run, Arth’s Corner, Great Escape, Little Canyon, Gold Bar, Golden Spike, and The Poison Spider Trail, with an option to finish down the challenging Moab Portal Trail. For those seeking a slightly easier ride, the Mag-5 route skips Gold Bar Rim and Portal, providing a more intermediate experience. Parking and shuttle pickup are at the Bar M Saloon Chuckwagon Parking Lot, which cannot be located via Google Maps, Apple Maps, or TrailForks, so following the RED PIN directions on the website is essential. Riders should avoid parking in the large Bar-M trails lot to ensure they do not miss the shuttle and should be ready to board 15 minutes prior to departure.
Riding in Moab’s desert environment requires careful preparation due to the heat, dryness, and technical nature of the trails. It is strongly recommended to carry at least 100 ounces of water per rider, along with ample food and snacks to maintain energy levels. Bikes should be in excellent working condition, and riders should bring repair tools including extra tubes, pump, tire patch kit, spare cable, derailleur hanger, multi-tool, and lube. Additional essentials include a headlamp, extra layers, windbreaker or waterproof jacket, sunglasses, sunscreen, a fire starter, first aid kit, and a cell phone. The trail is intermediate with advanced options and no e-bikes are allowed. Riders should practice Leave No Trace principles and note that the shuttle only runs if a minimum number of participants is met; confirmation will be provided by 5 pm the day prior to departure.
