The Flying Porcupine trail combo is one of Moab’s most exhilarating mountain biking experiences, offering a seamless ride across some of the area’s most renowned terrain. This adventure combines Eagle Eye, Hawk’s Glide, LPS, and Porcupine Rim into a single, efficient route with two shuttle rides and a total descent of 4,800 feet over 18 miles. Riders experience a dynamic mix of flow sections, technical challenges, rock features, drops, and singletrack with spectacular views. The route begins with a shuttle drop at Eagle Eye, descending through Eagle Eye and Hawk’s Glide to meet the second shuttle back up to the LPS trailhead, followed by a ride down LPS and Porcupine Rim to the Colorado River. Timing is critical, as riders must descend Eagle Eye and Hawk’s Glide within 75 minutes to connect with the second shuttle. If missed, riders must pedal up 4 miles and 2,000 feet to reach the LPS trailhead, or take an alternate climb via Porcupine Rim jeep road.
For those seeking extra adventure, riders can extend their journey by accessing the Upper Porcupine Singletrack (UPS), either the lower section or the full trail, adding up to 3 miles and 600 feet of climbing. Parking is at Rim Cyclery in Moab, and riders are advised to arrive 15 minutes early for shuttle loading. The desert environment is hot and dry, so carrying a minimum of 100 oz. of water per rider along with ample food and snacks is essential. Riders should bring a headlamp, extra warm layers, and ensure their bike is in top condition with spare tubes, pump, patch kits, multi-tool, and other necessary gear. Additional recommended items include sunglasses, sunscreen, a windbreaker or waterproof jacket, a first aid kit, fire starter, and a cell phone. This trail is advanced and e-bikes are not permitted. Shuttles run only if minimum participation is met, and riders should be prepared for changing conditions and potential mechanical challenges.
