The LPS and Porcupine Rim trails form the lower section of Moab's renowned Whole Enchilada Trail System, offering a diverse and challenging riding experience. Riders start on the Lower Porcupine Singletrack (LPS), which winds along the rim with flow sections, ledges, rock features, sharp turns, and drops. Early in the ride, cyclists encounter two challenging forks: The Notch, a short and steep technical route recommended only for highly experienced riders, and The Snotch, which features off-camber rocky switchbacks leading into technical slab sections. Both paths converge at the Porcupine Rim overlook, a perfect spot to rest, grab a snack, and take in views of Castle Valley. From there, the ride continues down the Porcupine Rim Trail, a fast, technical rock garden with sandstone shelves, boulders, and optional drops, culminating in an exposed singletrack section with breathtaking views of the Colorado River before finishing at the Porcupine Rim Trailhead River Parking Lot near Grandstaff Campground on HWY 128.
For those seeking a longer adventure, riders can extend their journey via the Upper Porcupine Singletrack (UPS), accessing three of the seven trails in the Whole Enchilada system. Lower UPS requires a short 0.25-mile pedal from the drop-off point, while the full UPS route adds 3 miles and 600 feet of climbing. Parking is recommended at the Porcupine Rim Trailhead to avoid a long ride back to town. Riders should prepare for the harsh desert environment by carrying ample water, snacks, extra warm layers, and keeping their bike in top condition with essential repair tools and spares. Safety gear, sunscreen, sunglasses, first aid, and a cell phone are essential. This trail is rated Advanced, no e-bikes are allowed, and riders must be ready to board 15 minutes prior to departure for loading. Following Leave No Trace principles is strongly encouraged to preserve the natural beauty of the area.

Philip

One of the most epic rides I've experienced as a intermediate rider. Some challenging sections for an intermediate. Walked just a few spots. The 1000ft climb at the start with the thin air to the high altitude (11'150ft) was quite tiring. Took the Raptor tail to end instead of Porcupine and it was very fun but had some pretty exposed spots too.

Great ride. Fairly long for an intermediate. About 6 hours back to town. Great views. Lots of trail variety.

Such a wonderful trail. Loved the ride! Loved the change from cool full forest up high, to hot arid desert down low. So much beautiful scenery! And, the climb at the top was a great workout to get started.

It's a beautiful and scenic ride but it didn't live up to the hype for me. There are many other rides in Moab I enjoyed more.

If you come in Moab this Is an experience you must do. The ride Is not complicated, except for a couple of spot where you have to walk your bike. What are amazing are the views and the environment around you. I definitely spent a great day there and hopefully I will do It again in future
