The SPI Assessment is available to candidates immediately after completing the SPI Course, as long as they have successfully met all course requirements and fulfill the assessment pre-requisites. This provides an opportunity for climbers to move directly from the learning environment into a formal evaluation of their skills. The assessment is designed to measure the candidate’s ability to apply the techniques and knowledge gained during the course in real-world climbing situations, ensuring they can instruct and manage single-pitch climbs safely and effectively.
Even though it is possible to take the assessment right after the course, it is strongly recommended that candidates spend additional time practicing and reinforcing the skills they have learned. A period of six to twelve months of hands-on experience allows for consolidation of techniques, increased confidence, and the development of practical problem-solving skills. This preparation not only improves the likelihood of success during the assessment but also ensures that candidates are better equipped to lead and instruct others safely in a variety of climbing settings.
