Mount Svartfell Hike Offers Rewarding Ascent and Panoramic Fjord Views

A challenging yet highly rewarding hike to the summit of Mount Svartfell is drawing adventure seekers to Borgarfjörður Eystri, where dramatic landscapes and sweeping coastal views define the experience. Rising prominently above the fjord, Svartfell presents an imposing silhouette that transforms into a manageable and engaging trek once on the trail.

The journey begins at the Breiðavík trailhead, following a broad and stable path toward Fagrihóll, known locally as “Beautiful Hill.” Along this section, hikers encounter occasional steeper stretches with loose footing, while being rewarded with expansive views over the fjord, the towering Dyrfjöll range, Staðarfjall, winding rivers, and the wide southern valley below.
