Built in 1836 for William St. John Elliot, D’Evereux is one of the earliest residential structures in Natchez and is celebrated for its architectural significance. The home features a full-length, two-story portico with white columns, a design that would later become iconic in southern architecture. D’Evereux is also notable for introducing the first cupola in Natchez residential architecture, adding a distinctive element to its elegant silhouette. The exterior presents a striking example of Greek Revival style, reflecting careful attention to proportion and detail that has made it historically significant.

While some modifications have been made to the interior over the years, much of it remains original and largely intact. The structural and decorative details demonstrate an academic precision in design, highlighting the craftsmanship of the period. According to the National Register nomination form, the combination of perfect proportion and refined detailing makes D’Evereux one of the most outstanding examples of Greek Revival architecture in the region, preserving both its historical and aesthetic value for modern visitors and architectural enthusiasts.
