Mount Repose was built in 1824 for William Bisland on land originally granted to his father, John Bisland, by the Spanish Crown in 1782. This historic home has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979, highlighting its architectural and cultural significance. Originally designed in the Federal style, Mount Repose is a two-and-a-half-story, single-pile house with a central hall. Its design reflects the elegance and simplicity of early 19th-century architecture, with clean lines and a balanced, symmetrical layout that conveys both refinement and strength.

The house features unadorned columns, six on the upper level and six on the lower, which emphasize the simplicity and proportion of the design. Two side wings extend from either side of the main structure, adding to its stately appearance. The heavy chimneys, with their strong lines, contribute an additional architectural interest, creating a harmonious balance between form and function. Mount Repose stands as an excellent example of Federal-style architecture and remains a significant historical landmark, reflecting the heritage of the Bisland family and the early development of Natchez.
