I am very sad to say this, but this place is a scam/tourist trap. I visited in August 2025 after asking our tour guide to take us somewhere where we could buy some authentic local silk products. I had a very good experience in Phnom Penh a few years back and wanted to repeat it. I purchased quite a few mulberry silk scarves and other silk products for quite some money (at the equivalent of more than 60 euros per scarf) only to realize the designs are actual counterfeits or can easily be purchased on Aliexpress for a fraction of the price. If I think my tour guide had reassured me that the products you could find here did absolutely not come from China... ABSOLUTELY DON'T VISIT!!!!!
The silk production tour indeed doesn't last long, but it's still very educational to see the whole process from worm to end product. There are several looms and ladies using them, I did ask a few questions and they happily answered. Now to the main event (for me at least), the shop part. I went with the intention to buy some fabric and I did. What I did not expect to be so hard was to pick just what I needed.. great selection of the both plain thai silk (1, 2 or 4 thread) and printed. Also good variety of ready made clothes, pijamas, accessories etc. (I struggled a LOT to pick a gift from the scarves collection, everything was so beautiful). The staff was very helpful and not at all intrusive or trying to force a sale.
We spent a delightful morning at Thai Silk Village in San Kamphaeng, just a short drive from Chiang Mai. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the vibrant colors and exquisite silk displays. The place feels authentic and deeply rooted in Thai craftsmanship. We started with a silk production tour, which included seeing live silkworms, thread-spinning, dyeing, and traditional weaving techniques. Watching the process in person gave us a new appreciation for how much care and time goes into a single piece of silk fabric. The artisans were happy to explain each step and welcomed us to observe closely. After the tour, we explored the large showroom filled with scarves, clothes, bedding, and more. Some pieces were high-end and expensive, but there were also reasonably priced items that made great gifts or personal keepsakes. The quality across the board was excellent. We ended up buying a few silk scarves and pillowcases. What made the visit even more enjoyable was the peaceful, garden-like setting and the relaxed atmosphere—no hard selling, just friendly staff who were proud of their craft. It’s a great stop if you’re interested in Thai textiles or want to bring home something meaningful. Highly recommended if you’re in Chiang Mai and have a couple of hours to spare.
