Visiting Salaam Cave to feed my favorite animals—the turtles—was truly a wonderful and unforgettable experience. From the moment you arrive, everything is well organized and focused on both safety and respect for the animals. Before entering the cave, you’re required to shower off, and a staff member walks you through a set of simple rules to follow. You’re also given a small container of seaweed to feed the turtles. The water is cold at first, which can be a bit of a shock, but once you’re in, it becomes comfortable. One of the best tips is to stay calm and move gently. Feeding the turtles small pieces of seaweed helps make the experience last longer and keeps them engaged. I truly believe the turtles can sense energy and tension. By remaining calm, gentle, and not anxious, the turtles were very peaceful with me. Some tourists who were in the water at the same time seemed scared and tense, and they ended up getting bitten. I, however, did not get bitten at all, even after I ran out of seaweed. Overall, it was a beautiful, peaceful experience. If you respect the rules, stay calm and treat the turtles gently, visiting Salaam Cave is an incredible experience I would highly recommend—especially for anyone who loves marine life as much as I do. We did not go with a tour guy- went on our own which is a lot better option. $12 per person for 30minutes

We visited Salam Cave in Zanzibar and had such a fun experience! The place is beautiful and the atmosphere is so unique. Swimming with the turtles was the highlight—such an unforgettable moment! The staff were friendly and the whole experience felt safe and well-organized. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in Zanzibar!

Amazing experience with turtles in November 2025: my wife was feeding them in the pool while I took photos and videos from above. One turtle even came up and gently tapped with its fin, asking for more food—such a fascinating moment! Nearby, there’s a beach restaurant with a simple setup, but the food was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent.

The entrance fee is $20 per person for one hour, and it’s definitely worth it! The turtles are very friendly and interactive — they actually respond to you and swim close, especially when you have seaweed to feed them. Even though there were quite a few visitors, it was still possible to take great photos and videos without people in the background, which was amazing. There’s also a small café nearby, where you can have a drink or snack, and a souvenir shop on site. Facilities like toilets and showers are available too

A unique, amazing, beautiful experience!! Love everything about it! The only concern is that turtles might be over feeding with so many people coming in there, plus it’s direct contact with them, I just hope they, turtles, are very well protected and taken care. Such beautiful creatures. Entrance fee was 12$ for 30 minutes in the cave, plus got some snack box to feed them.
