An incredible place that few know about. I'll try to explain it briefly: it's a day trip from Purmamarca or Tilcara. It's a full-day excursion. Bring a picnic lunch, sunscreen, a hat, and shoes that will get muddy (though not necessarily wet) about 80% of the time. Also, plan to bring binoculars. The road is paved until Abra Pampa, and from there it's gravel (95% in very good condition). The total time from when you enter the park is approximately 2.5 hours for a self-guided visit. There are no services at the park. It's estimated that no more than 100 people visit it per month, so you're unlikely to encounter anyone. The road is completely safe, even if you see puddles (usually in summer). You must register your arrival and departure from the park. For example, we left Tilcara at 10:00 AM and returned at 6:00 PM. Fuel is available in Abra Pampa and Rinconada.

Definitely worth to go even in a dry season. The last entrance is at 16:00. You need report to park guards at the building close to the road, then you cross the bridge, turn right and go further 7km while opening and closing mutliple gates on the way. Finally there is 10-15mins walk from the parking place to the laguna. Binoculars or a camera with good zoom are useful. Just several people per day visit the place in November so you mostly have it for yourself :-)

Very beautiful landscapes and native Puna fauna.

The lagoon itself, like all nature, is beautiful with its wildlife! The roads to get there are something else entirely. First, you have to pray to Mother Earth for guidance because they don't even put up a single sign indicating how to get there. Once at the registration office, they send you down IMPASSABLE roads! They're not capable of covering a well. To open and close the gates, you have to step into a mud ditch (so the locals' animals don't escape). And if it rains, you have to dip your car into the water because they don't tell you how to avoid the terrible mini-lagoons to get to the Pozuelo lagoon. Bring a good camera or binoculars, because the flamingos, obviously, fly away when they see you coming!
