Rob Machado explains that the Seaside is an evolution of his Go Fish design, created to provide a higher performance option while maintaining the playful and fun nature of the original board. The Go Fish is known for its fast, loose, and skatey feel, but after riding it for several years, Machado wanted a board that offered more precision, tighter turns, and better carving ability. The Seaside achieves this through refinements such as reducing the tail area, narrowing the tips of the swallow, adding more curve, and narrowing the nose. These changes make the Seaside more performance-oriented, ideal for ripping and aggressive maneuvers, while the Go Fish remains a relaxed, cruisy option. The board is strictly a quad, with concaves and bottom contours designed specifically for the quad setup. Machado redesigned the concave setup he used on the Moonbeam and Go Fish to ensure all elements work together for optimal control, balance, and responsiveness.
The Seaside is named after Machado’s home break because it performs perfectly in the local waves and feels like the ideal surfboard for that spot. Unlike the LFT construction used for bigger waves like Tahiti, the Seaside is built in Helium, making it lightweight, responsive, flexy, and durable. Helium is particularly well suited for smaller beach breaks and point breaks, offering a softer feel and better maneuverability in weaker waves. This combination of refined design, quad-specific concaves, and Helium construction creates a high-performance board that is precise, fun, and versatile, making it an excellent choice for surfers seeking both control and enjoyment in a variety of wave conditions.
