Adventure on Moab’s iconic Whole Enchilada trail system

Technical singletrack, rock features, and flowy corners

Stunning views of Castle Valley and the Colorado River

Optional extended ride via Upper Porcupine Singletrack

Experience The Legendary Whole Enchilada Lower Section Starting From The Convenient River Trailhead Parking Lot

The LPS and Porcupine Rim trails form the lower section of Moab's renowned Whole Enchilada Trail System, offering a diverse and challenging riding experience for experienced cyclists. Riders start on the Lower Porcupine Singletrack, which winds along the rim with flow sections, ledges, rock features, sharp turns, and drops. Early in the ride, cyclists encounter two challenging forks: The Notch, a short and steep technical route, and The Snotch, which features off-camber rocky switchbacks leading into technical slab sections for advanced riders.

Both paths converge at the Porcupine Rim overlook, a perfect spot to rest, grab a snack, and take in views of Castle Valley. From there, the ride continues down the Porcupine Rim Trail, a fast, technical rock garden with sandstone shelves, boulders, and optional drops. The trail culminates in an exposed singletrack section with breathtaking views of the Colorado River before finishing at the Porcupine Rim Trailhead River Parking Lot near Grandstaff Campground on HWY 128, making for a spectacular conclusion.

For those seeking a longer adventure, riders can extend their journey via the Upper Porcupine Singletrack, accessing three of the seven trails in the Whole Enchilada system. This area is known for its rugged beauty and demanding terrain, so riders should ensure their equipment is in top condition before heading out. Carrying extra water, a comprehensive repair kit, and a first-aid kit is highly recommended due to the remote nature of the trail and the potential for mechanical issues on the rocks.

This specific shuttle option provides a convenient pickup point at the river trailhead, allowing riders to focus on the descent without worrying about vehicle logistics. It is an ideal choice for those who want to experience the most famous technical sections of the Whole Enchilada without the full-day commitment of the upper mountain. Whether you are a local or a visitor, this ride offers a perfect blend of challenge, scenery, and pure mountain biking joy in the heart of Moab.
