Colorado is an incredible destination for ice climbing, where the seemingly impossible task of ascending a frozen waterfall becomes both accessible and inspiring. Through the guidance of experienced instructors, climbers develop the rhythm, balance, and technique needed to move confidently on ice, enabling them to enjoy the sport throughout the winter season. The state offers an impressive variety of climbing locations, from the popular ice park and expansive backcountry terrain in the San Juans near Lake City to more approachable and less committing venues found in the Front Range. This range of options makes it easy for climbers of all levels to find routes that fit their goals and experience.
From the very first swing of an ice tool, climbers can progress naturally through a wide spectrum of skills. Beginners learn core techniques such as using crampons, handling ice tools, and operating essential safety systems, gaining a solid foundation on simpler routes. As they advance, doors open to more demanding objectives, including classic multi-pitch routes like The Sherman Route or technical mixed and alpine climbs. With its diverse terrain, expert instruction, and stunning winter scenery, Colorado truly offers something for everyone interested in the excitement and challenge of ice climbing.

An absolute belter of a time with Ant. His teaching style is calm and tailored. The magnitude of his knowledge and experience is clear and the love he has for the sport shines through from the second you meet him. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to learn to climb or progress. A top weekend with top people. 5 star ⭐️

We had an amazing two days with Ant at Lakes Adventure, developing winter skills and getting a taste of winter climbing. Ant was both incredibly knowledgeable and great company, his experience in the mountains really shone through and we felt in safe hands throughout. He really knew how to make the most of slightly questionable Scottish weather, with two great mountain days, and we left with new skills and huge amount more confidence to get out into the mountains in winter. I'd definitely reccomend Lakes Adventures, and hope to join them again sometime. Thanks for all your help and I'm looking forward to putting these skills into practice!

Fantastic week completing a Winter Mountaineering foundation course with Antony. It was great to be challenged whilst learning new skills which I will take with me for future mountaineering experiences. Ant was a great instructor who took us from complete beginners to a competent level, really approachable and informative guy. Highly recommend. Cheers for a great week Ant!!

Completed the 5 day Winter Mountaineering Foundation course with Antony, and was fantastic and very informative! He helped with getting to grips using crampons, ice axes, making snow shelters and admin on the mountains whilst delivering informative lessons on how to use weather forecasts to plan routes according to avalanches and wind. Went from complete novices on day 1 to completing Stob coire nan lochan a few days later. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back for more!

My partner Cristina and I had a whole day of climbing in Great Langdale with Anthony from Lakes Adventure doing our first Trad climbs and had the best experience! Anthony gave us more then we hoped for, not only did he bring us to the best places, he taughted us loads about technique, skills and how to multi-pitch. He has an amazing calm about himself that meant a lot when facing a challenge on the rock. We will definitely be back and highly recommend! Thanks Anthony!
