Full-Day Ice Climbing Adventure Takes Winter Exploration to the Next Level

Ice climbing enthusiasts and newcomers can spend a full eight hours on the ice with a guided adventure designed for all skill levels and participants aged eight and above. Available from December through March, the full-day experience provides more time to tackle different climbs, develop technique and practise essential climbing and belaying skills under the guidance of experienced professionals.

Red River Adventures supplies all the technical equipment required, including harnesses, helmets, ice tools, boots and crampons. Professional guides operate across several locations, with routes ranging from easy to hard and grades of WI2 to WI5. The variety of terrain allows each outing to be tailored to the group’s ability and experience, giving participants the opportunity to build confidence while discovering the challenges and excitement of ice climbing.

The adventure can take place at Little Cottonwood, Provo or Maple Canyon, each offering a selection of routes and distinctive winter scenery. Guests are responsible for bringing their own outerwear, while the guiding team provides instruction, manages risks and helps climbers make the most of their time on the ice. The extended format also allows participants to progress beyond basic skills and explore multiple routes during the day.

For those who want more than a brief introduction to the sport, the full-day experience offers an immersive winter adventure in some of the region’s popular climbing areas. Guests are also reminded that tipping guides is customary in the United States, with 15–20% often used as a general guideline for excellent service. With expert instruction, technical equipment and a full day to climb, the experience offers an exciting introduction to the frozen landscapes around Provo and Maple Canyon.
