Half-Day Ice Climbing Adventure Opens the Door to Winter in the Wasatch

Adventure seekers can take to the frozen cliffs of the Wasatch with a four-hour guided ice climbing experience designed for participants of all skill levels aged eight and above. Available from December through March, the half-day sampler offers an introduction to single-pitch ice climbing for beginners, indoor gym climbers looking to move outdoors and experienced climbers returning to the sport after a break.

Red River Adventures provides professional guides and all the technical equipment needed for the experience, including harnesses, helmets, ice tools, boots and crampons. Guides operate at multiple locations, selecting routes according to each group’s experience and ability. Climbing difficulties range from easy to hard, with routes graded WI2 to WI5, offering participants the chance to experience the frozen landscape at a suitable level.

One of the featured areas is Provo Canyon, where climbers can discover the dramatic winter scenery while learning essential techniques under the supervision of experienced outdoor professionals. Guests are responsible for bringing their own appropriate outerwear, while the guiding team focuses on safety, instruction and helping participants enjoy their time on the ice.

The experience is designed to be both challenging and welcoming, giving newcomers an opportunity to discover ice climbing without committing to a full-day expedition. Guests are also reminded that tipping guides is customary in the United States, with 15–20% often used as a general guideline when guides provide an outstanding experience.
