Our journey begins and ends at a designated meeting point, where we’ll first transport guests back in time to experience life in a medieval village of great economic, social, and cultural significance. You’ll get to see the facade of the Summer Palace of the Portuguese Royal Family, which stood as a symbol of royal life until the early 20th century, as well as the Castle of the Mouros, a fascinating historical landmark. During this stop, guests will also have the opportunity to sample Sintra’s exclusive sweets, the Queijada and Travesseiro. From there, we’ll head to the magnificent Pena Palace, also known as the Portuguese Neuschwanstein Palace, built by Consort King Dom Fernando II in the first half of the 19th century after his marriage to Queen Dona Maria II. A true place of fantasy, Pena Palace offers not only lush gardens but also panoramic views of the Sintra mountains, Cabo da Roca coast, and the golden beaches of Guincho, a popular spot for surfers seeking the world’s biggest waves in Nazaré.
Our next stop takes us to the charming town of Cascais, often referred to as the Hidden Pearl of the Atlantic. Originally founded as a fishing village by royal decree in the 14th century, Cascais became a royal summer retreat in the 19th century when King Dom Luís and his wife Dona Maria Pia de Saboia brought Portuguese nobility to the area. The village’s typical fishermen’s houses, the sun-drenched beaches, and the vibrant atmosphere give Cascais a unique charm. The town also became a popular destination for European kings during World War II, who sought refuge here, further adding to its appeal among the rich and famous. After exploring the town, we’ll pause for a delicious lunch in this picturesque fishing village before concluding our tour.
