Luis was Amazing! Great communication pre-tour, clear meeting point, easy to connect. THe tour itself was perfectly suited to our interests in history, art and architecture and was informatively supplemented with pictures that helped us understand the historical context of the places we were visiting, be that the monastery, the park, or the church. Luis has a deep knowledge and was able to offer us fascinating information at a pace and depth we could profitably digest. Plus, he's a lot of fun. A delightful three hours with a skilled tour guide. A breathtaking symbol of Portugal's maritime Golden Age. The Jerónimos Monastery is simply monumental. The architecture is a masterpiece of the Manueline style, filled with intricate stone carvings of ropes, anchors, and sea motifs that perfectly reflect the power of the former maritime empire. The attention to detail in the ornaments and the cloisters is mesmerizing. Be aware that this is one of Lisbon's most popular sites, so the lines at the entrance can be very long. We waited quite a while, but the interior is absolutely worth every minute of standing in line. After the visit, we treated ourselves to the traditional Pastéis de Belém at the famous bakery next door. The perfect sweet ending to a historical tour.
Jerónimos Monastery was the most popular attraction in Portugal. To me, it is definitely the most overrated attraction on earth. The venue itself is small and plain. The design and architecture of this monastery is not stunning. You could complete visiting within 15 minutes. Certainly, if you like photography, you can stay longer. In a nutshell, there are not much to appreciate. I reckon the negative comments are true!!! No worth for the time to queue. No worth for the ticket. Go straight to the venue. If there's no line, use your phone to purchase tickets online and enter the attractions. Visit it ONLY if you have extra time, a Lisbona card and no long waiting line.
