Advanced Open Water Diver Course: Expanding Skills in a World Heritage Setting
The Advanced Open Water Diver Course is designed to refine underwater skills while introducing divers to more varied and challenging environments. Through a series of five adventure dives, participants build experience across key specialties including deep diving, drift diving, underwater navigation, underwater naturalist exploration, and peak performance buoyancy. Each dive is supported by structured knowledge reviews to reinforce understanding of essential techniques and safety principles.
Training is typically conducted over two days, with Day 1 covering the first two adventure dives, including the deep dive where conditions permit. Day 2 focuses on the remaining dives, with the underwater navigation component taking approximately one and a half hours. This can be completed either in the afternoon of Day 2 or scheduled on a separate day, allowing flexibility based on weather, conditions, and group progress.
The course is suitable for certified Open Water Divers who have completed the required eLearning prior to arrival. Delivered in small groups, it combines guided instruction with hands-on practice to ensure strong skill development and personalised attention from instructors throughout the experience.
Upon completion, divers gain improved confidence in buoyancy control, underwater navigation, and adapting to different dive conditions. This certification serves as a key stepping stone toward more independent diving, preparing participants for a wider range of dive environments around Lord Howe Island and in destinations worldwide.
