Open Water Diver Course: Your Gateway to Exploring the Underwater World
The Open Water Diver Course provides a structured introduction to the essential skills and knowledge required to explore the underwater environment with confidence. Over three training days, participants progress through classroom learning, confined water practice, and four open water dives conducted in the remarkable lagoon and outer reef systems of Lord Howe Island. This combination of theory and practical experience ensures a strong foundation for new divers.
Instruction is delivered in small groups, allowing for close supervision, personalised feedback, and increased in-water practice time with an experienced instructor. This supportive learning environment is ideal for beginners, while the flexible scheduling makes it easy to integrate the course into your island stay. All theoretical components can be completed in advance through the PADI eLearning platform, helping you arrive prepared and ready to dive.
Upon certification, divers are qualified to explore underwater environments worldwide to a maximum depth of 18 metres, with specific depth limitations applied to younger participants aged 10 to 14. The course is designed to meet international safety standards while building confidence and competence in real diving conditions.
Participants must be able to swim 200 metres and complete a Diver Medical Questionnaire before beginning the course. Depending on medical history, some individuals may require additional clearance. Due to Lord Howe Island’s remote location, it is strongly recommended to complete a full dive medical prior to arrival, and those with a history of asthma must undergo a bronchial provocation test before travel, as this cannot be conducted on the island.
