Excellent Kaiseki experience! We booked a Sunday lunch here the night before. We shared the counter with just one other couple. Well-designed and playful course, for a reasonable price, unique flavours, fresh ingredients, kind attentive service (including readiness to google translate responses for our questions). We left full and satisfied. Well done to the 3-person team - you made us feel very welcome and inspired!
Joy, gratitude and deliciousness are words to express about Gion Moriwaka. This is my first kaiseki and it blew my mind. Dish after dish was beautifully presented. I could taste the hint of ginger and lemon in those certain dishes. Go ahead and book guys!! The chef and the ladies were exceptionally kind to this single diner!
The food was unique and interesting AND absolutely DELICIOUS. The chef and his wife were lovely and extremely kind to me. They were never bothered by my numerous questions and their enthusiasm towards the food was amazing. Edit: Months later I still think about this place all the time. It is one of my favorite places I’ve ever been. This place makes me want to go back to Kyoto and Japan just to go back here. It keeps me up at night thinking about the food and the hospitality. It warms my heart remembering the chef cheerfully puffing up his cheek when trying to explain blowfish ✨ the hostess was also excellent and created such an amazing atmosphere here It definitely sets the ceiling for service and food quality for me.
This was an incredible set meal in a family-owned establishment. The service was thoughtful and every detail was well done. I would recommend this to anyone coming to Kyoto and looking for an authentic kaiseki experience. In particular, we admired the serving dishes that were used with every course. They all served a unique function and matched what we were eating. We learned that the chef made the bowls that our dessert was served in and felt it was such a special touch! Highly recommend
The best kaiseki meal in Japan! It is a family owned restaurant where a lot of care and dedication is put in the food. The food is beautifully placed on the table and the ingredients used are very fresh. We were told what we were eating and also the best way to eat it so we can fully enjoy it. The level of service provided is brilliant. Each guest is treated extremely well. You must make a booking beforehand and it is the best meal I've had in Japan. Would love to go again the next time I am in Kyoto.
