This was our first visit to Japan and I had no expectations going in. Let me just say that this experience was one of the highlights of our family trip! From the time we walked in, we were made to feel welcome. The people who helped us choose our kimonos, dressed us, and did our hair were so professional and talented. We all felt comfortable and beautiful. Amy, our guide, was very personable and kept everyone engaged. It was fascinating to learn the history and participate in this ancient ceremony with others from around the world. I especially love that she explained that dressing up and being interested was not considered cultural appropriation, but that we were being invited as guests for cultural appreciation. The tea and sweets were delicious and hyper-local. I also appreciate that we were able to visit on a weekend, which was the only time we would be in Kyoto. When we were finished, Nishiki Market was mere steps away. I 1000% recommend Maikoya Nishiki Kimono Tea Ceremony to anyone and everyone. It’s a treasure.

No doubt that this was once of the best experiences I’ve ever had. Dressing in a kimono and having somebody do your hair is so special and then being guided through the history of the tea ceremony was beautiful. There is so much importance in each movement and process and your guide engages you with every step. And then you get to make your own, which is so much fun. And when it’s all over, you go into their lovely garden and your guide takes photos of you. I combined the ticket it with the Samurai museum, which is well worth doing.

Sana san was AMAZING! My husband and I went for a private tea ceremony and she took so many amazing pictures and was extremely kind. The ceremony is a shortened version, where she told us all about the history. Matcha was very high quality and delicious. Very interesting! Would do again for certain.

I had a fantastic time here. There were plenty of lovely kimonos to pick from and the ladies do your hair for you. The tea ceremony itself is very calm and relaxing and we learnt a brief history of the tea ceremony as well as performing it. Afterwards there's a lovely little garden area to take photo. You can keep your kinono on for the day if you wish and bring it back before they close. Everyone was very helpful and friendly, it was a great experience. Cannot recommend this place enough! Make sure you book in advance as it gets sold out.

It was such a lovely experience. It made our trip special. It’s such a unique moment to experience a tea cerimony wearing a kimono. It will be in our memories forever. The staff was helpful and friendly, they even styled our hair. Our host Sono was amazing! She helped us understand the historic meaning of the tea cerimony with a touch of fun! Thank you so so much 💞
