Bioluminescence Paddle Bellingham
Mega SUP Bioluminescence Paddle offers a three hour nighttime adventure for participants aged 13 and above. No previous paddleboarding experience is required. Guests step onto a giant stand up paddleboard and explore glowing waters while learning about bioluminescent organisms and the marine environment around Bellingham Bay.
The experience begins on land with a safety briefing before participants launch onto the water. The group paddles approximately one to one and a half miles at a relaxed pace before reaching an area where bioluminescent organisms can be viewed and experienced. Participants may enter the water and swim while wearing wetsuits if they feel comfortable doing so.
Guides explain the science behind bioluminescence including why certain organisms produce light and what their activity can reveal about ecosystem health. Participants should feel comfortable sitting or standing on a large paddleboard and have moderate physical endurance. Guests choosing to swim should be able to lift themselves back onto the board.
The activity is available for ages 13 and above with a one to one adult to child ratio required for younger participants. Guests under 13 can consider arranging a private bioluminescence experience. Alcohol consumption is not permitted. Weather wind and air quality conditions are monitored throughout the experience and the route may change when safety conditions require it.
