Heritage Farm Offers a Full Day of Appalachian History, Culture, and Family Adventure
Families can step back in time at Heritage Farm Museum & Village, a recreated 19th-century Appalachian village filled with history, culture, nature, and hands-on experiences. From museums and animal exhibits to traditional artisans and outdoor adventures, the attraction offers a full day of discovery for visitors of all ages.
Guests can experience what life was like for Appalachian settlers from the 1850s onward, meet animals at the petting zoo and Nature Center, and watch skilled artisans demonstrate traditional crafts. Farm animals include sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, llamas, peacocks, and a bison, while the Nature Center features reptiles, amphibians, and fish native to Central Appalachian environments.
For visitors seeking extra excitement, the Adventure Park features ziplines, high ropes courses, and a mountain bike park. These activities are separate from General Admission and are scheduled to open May 30. The Farm operates Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. between April 30 and October 31, with tickets valid throughout the day, subject to seasonal closures and festival schedules.
Heritage Farm also offers food concessions at Village Vittles and snacks inside the Visitor’s Center. Most buildings, including the three main museums, are accessible, with ramps and appropriate clearance, although gravel pathways and the spread-out village may present challenges for some guests with limited mobility. Visitors with accessibility questions are encouraged to contact the Farm in advance for assistance.
