4-Day Carpathian Trek: Bucegi Mountains and Piatra Craiului National Park

Ecotourism Expedition Through Bucegi and Piatra Craiului Showcases Romania’s Alpine Heritage

An ecotourism-certified adventure developed in collaboration with environmental partners offers travelers a carefully designed journey through some of Romania’s most striking mountain landscapes. Supported by Green Cross Romania and co-funded by the Environmental Partnership Foundation, the itinerary reflects a strong commitment to sustainable travel while highlighting the natural and cultural richness of the region.

The experience begins and ends in Brașov, with a full-day exploration of the Bucegi Mountains followed by a two-day trek in Piatra Craiului National Park, widely regarded as one of the country’s most scenic alpine areas. Depending on conditions and group preference, the hike may include an ascent toward the park’s highest peak at 2,238 meters, offering sweeping views across the Southern Carpathians.

Across both segments of the journey, participants spend between five and eight hours per day hiking through a diverse range of landscapes. The route passes through dramatic limestone gorges, forested trails, and traditional mountain villages nestled at the foot of the ranges, where rural life continues much as it has for generations. These contrasts between wild terrain and cultural heritage form a central part of the experience.

During the summer season, the itinerary is further enriched by a visit to a traditional sheep farm, where guests are treated to a locally prepared meal featuring regional products. Combining nature exploration, cultural encounters, and responsible tourism practices, the journey is designed to offer an immersive and sustainable way to experience the beauty and authenticity of Romania’s mountain regions.
