PR13 Vereda do Fanal Hiking with Transfer

Starting from the Paúl da Serra plateau, the Vereda do Fanal trail offers a rewarding hiking experience across one of Madeira’s most beautiful natural landscapes. This 10.8 kilometer route takes around four and a half to five hours to complete and passes through the rich and ancient Laurissilva forest, a protected area known for its unique biodiversity and lush greenery. Along the way, hikers will encounter a mix of open landscapes and shaded forest paths, creating a varied and refreshing journey. The trail features several scenic viewpoints where you can enjoy sweeping views over the Ribeira da Janela valley and the surrounding countryside, making it an ideal experience for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts. The hike ends in the magical Fanal area, a peaceful location known for its misty atmosphere and ancient trees, some of which are centuries old. This area is part of a protected reserve where visitors can relax and take in the calm surroundings. The trail is considered moderate in difficulty, making it suitable for those with a reasonable level of fitness. Transfers are available from several locations, ensuring a smooth and comfortable journey to and from the starting and ending points. A small hiking fee is required and can be arranged easily before or on the day of the hike.
