This route is a must for mountain enthusiasts, offering an unforgettable journey through some of Madeira’s most dramatic landscapes. The trail begins at Pico do Arieiro, standing at 1,818 meters, and winds into the island’s rugged interior, where hikers are treated to breathtaking vistas of peaks, valleys, and the surrounding natural beauty. Along the way, the trail showcases the island’s unique terrain, with its striking rock formations and panoramic views that make this hike a truly remarkable experience.

The highlight of the adventure is reaching Pico Ruivo, the highest point on Madeira at 1,861 meters, where visitors can admire unparalleled views across the island and the Atlantic Ocean. After taking in the scenery, the journey continues with a scenic 1-hour drive to Achada do Teixeira. Given the high-altitude nature of this route, hikers should be prepared for sudden weather changes, making proper clothing and equipment essential for a safe and enjoyable experience.

Spectacular. €5 for all day at middle car park. We arrived at 6:45 and had to park in this one. We visited in October and sunrise was at 8:13. We preferred the hill below the top point to watch the sunrise as it’s less crowded.

Am amazing hike with spectacular views. Either you get to walk in the clouds in misty mountains or you get the see the spectacular cliffs vertically falling down into the valley below. The track is super well maintained and even without the connection to the Pico Ruivo the hike is a gem. We spent 3h just because we admired the scenery so much. Madeira Mist see for a very good reason

We went to watch the sunrise rise which was our highlight. The walk our guide said was quite. I found it very busy but I am used to being in much quieter hikes. Since Aug 2024 there was a landslide and the full walk is now blocked so you walk down the staircase to look back at it and walk all the way back. The scenery was spectacular and we had a really nice, sunny warm day for the walk which made the day. I wouldn't have enjoyed it if it was wet and cold! I've put 4 stars only because the full hike is closed.

One of the most amazing sunrise and hiking experiences of my life. It's too bad the path was closed this year, but it was still work hiking what was open to take in all the epic views.
