This student canoe trip on the Lahn River is a perfect team building experience that promotes cooperation, communication, and class cohesion. The tour starts daily between ten and ten thirty a.m. from Leun Lahn train station, just a minute from the platform. After a short introduction to paddling techniques, safety, and lock operation, the students set off together, coordinating their movements and learning to work as a group. The river winds through lush greenery, small locks, and historic sites such as the castle ruins in Löhnberg. Along the way, students stop at Selters beer garden for a break and enjoy the unique Weilburg shipping tunnel, Germany’s only tunnel of its kind. Teachers accompany one per ten students, and kayaks for supervisors are available, ensuring guidance while the students take responsibility for teamwork and navigation.
The approximately fifteen kilometer trip to Weilburg takes about four hours of paddling with scenic views, gentle currents, and opportunities to practice collaborative decision making. Groups can choose to extend the journey to Gräveneck for a longer six hour experience. The route is ideal for beginners, offering calm waters and hands-on experience with hand-operated locks that require joint effort. The tour ends at Weilburg, next to the historic shipping tunnel, where students can relax before returning to Leun by train. This adventure combines physical activity, environmental awareness, and history into a memorable outdoor learning experience.
