Lahn River Student Canoe Trip – 3-Day Adventure from Leun to Limburg

The three-day student canoe trip from Leun to Limburg is an exciting outdoor adventure that blends teamwork, nature, and history into a meaningful shared experience. Starting at Leun Lahn train station, just steps from the put-in point, the location is ideal for arrival by train or coach. Before setting off, students receive a short but essential introduction to paddling techniques, safety rules, and lock operation, ensuring a confident and well-prepared start on the calm waters of the Lahn River.

The first day of paddling takes the group through the Löhnberg lock, the remarkable Weilburg shipping tunnel, and the historic Koppel lock before reaching the Gräveneck campsite. Along the way, students begin working together as a team, learning cooperation and communication while enjoying the peaceful river scenery. At the campsite, the group sets up tents, takes part in games and shared activities, and builds stronger social bonds in a relaxed natural environment.

On the second day, the route continues through scenic stretches of the Lahn Valley, passing Aumenau and Villmar, home to the famous marble bridge. The journey then leads to Runkel, where the impressive castle overlooks the river, offering a striking historical highlight. Students navigate additional manual locks, take breaks along the riverbanks, and continue developing teamwork, independence, and responsibility throughout the day.

The final stage of the trip flows past Dehrn Castle before reaching the cathedral city of Limburg, where the canoe journey concludes. An optional extension to Diez is available before returning to Leun via the Lahn Valley Railway. Over three days, students paddle approximately 50–55 kilometers, gaining valuable life skills while experiencing the natural beauty, cultural heritage, and cooperative spirit of the Lahn River.
