I had an absolutely wonderful helicopter experience with Mt Cook Ski Planes & Helicopters (Tasman Taster), and it was hands-down one of the best things I have done in New Zealand! Visited on Dec 1st and the scenic flight over Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park was breathtaking. Soaring above the stunning glaciers, icefalls, and snow-capped peaks felt like being in another world. The highlight was the alpine snow landing, where we stepped out onto pristine snow with incredible panoramic views of the Southern Alps. The pilot was professional, knowledgeable, and shared fascinating insights about the area, making the whole trip even more memorable. The team on the ground was friendly and efficient, and everything ran smoothly.

The staff really cares about safety. We originally booked a Heli Hike, but it was canceled due to weather condition. Fortunately, the weather improved the next day, and we were able to rebook a Helicopter Scenic Flight immediately. The boarding process was very smooth, and the pilot was extremely professional. Best of all were the breathtaking glacier views—this is absolutely a must-do experience.

BEWARE. Each seat is not a window seat on their flights. They do not have a clue of what a scenic flight means. Being stuck in a cramped middle seat with no view is not anyone’s idea of a scenic flight. They cram people in the helicopter and the ski plane like sardines in a can. And two rows of three people each. If you are the lucky one in the middle seat, your scenic view is the heads of the people in front of you. That’s why you spent all this money to come to New Zealand and pay for the helicopter/ski plane scenic tour? Had we known this we would have booked with someone else but by the time we were told to sit in the middle seat at the time of boarding it was too late. And to add insult to injury, the lady helping with boarding was rude. She needs to find a job working with cargo planes given her attitude about loading passengers in a plane. And their response to asking about being in the middle seat is that they will rotate people on the flight back. So basically if not you, then some other unlucky soul would be stuck in the middle seat of a “scenic” flight. There has to be better options. Even if it was the cheapest( which I doubt it is), it’s still not worth the opportunity cost of not really seeing anything after getting on a “scenic” flight except the heads in front of you. See the photos to get an idea of your scenic view in these cramped plane/helicopter

This was a bucket list adventure. We got super lucky with the weather. The helicopter ride to the glacier was smooth! After getting outfitted with our crampons we were off across the glacier. Two woman guides made it possible for our group to get to an incredible ice cave. Magical! The colors of ice, history of the glacier and the cave experience were tremendous.

We had an absolutely amazing experience flying to the Tasman Glacier with Mark G as our pilot. From the moment we walked into reception, the customer service was outstanding. The staff at reception were warm, welcoming, and went above and beyond to answer all of our questions. They made us feel completely at ease and genuinely cared about making the whole experience special. Mark G was fantastic—professional, knowledgeable, and very friendly. He shared great insights during the flight, which made the journey even more memorable. Landing on the glacier was breathtaking. This company truly shines in both the quality of their flights and their incredible customer service. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience, and we would recommend them without hesitation to anyone visiting the area.
