★★★★★ (5/5) Visited Viceroys Arch in Old Goa and honestly, it’s a quick stop but a solid one 👍 The Arch of the Viceroys, also called Viceroy’s Arch, was built in 1599 by Viceroy Francisco da Gama to commemorate Vasco da Gama’s arrival in India in 1498. Knowing this while standing there hits different. Real history, not textbook stuff 😮🔥 The structure itself looks strong and aged in a good way. Stone + brick combo, detailed carving on top, and a proper information plaque that even mentions the 1954 restoration. You can literally drive through the arch, which feels kinda cool and old-school at the same time. Location is a big win. It’s right near the Mandovi river, close to ferry and jetty points, and not far from the famous Old Goa church area. The surroundings are green and calm. Perfect for a quick photoshoot 📸 especially if you like heritage vibes with nature. No entry fee. No crowd drama. Just walk around, read the plaque, take photos, move on. Simple. 😌 Not a full-day spot, but definitely visit once if you’re in Old Goa. Worth stopping for history + river-side views 👍
A Historical Landmark . Though rebuilt, the old inscription and sculpture have been retained . ASI has installed an useful Signboard with good information about the structure . Worth stopping by and have a look .
Constructed in circa 1600, it is amazing that this arch is still surviving! This was constructed by then viceroy Francisco Da Gama, in memory of his great grandfather Vasco Da Gama. The structure is maintained very well by the ASI. Such monuments are part of the country's history and hence Kudos to the ASI for maintaining it very well.
