Very bad experience. The price listed here is not the same price the guide asks for later. The night before the trip, he contacts you on WhatsApp and asks for an extra payment, telling you to choose between two days or one day for USD 400. This amount is extremely high and not reasonable. I asked at my hotel and also asked people on the street selling the same tour, and the price was around USD 250, not 400. This extra charge is not mentioned anywhere in the booking details, which is misleading and unprofessional. I requested a refund, and now I will see what happens.

I am deeply disappointed by my experience with the Belmond Hiram Bingham train, which was nothing close to the luxury and transparency advertised. I purchased a ticket for $570 directly on Belmond’s official website, reasonably believing that access to Machu Picchu was included, as the communication strongly suggests. At no point did I receive any email, warning, or clear information stating that the entrance ticket was not included. Upon arriving at Poroy station, I was told that my ticket did not grant access to Machu Picchu, but that I could still board the train. Taking a luxury train to a destination you are not allowed to enter is completely pointless. The staff were condescending and unhelpful, repeatedly implying the mistake was mine, while offering no real solution other than suggesting I stay overnight and “maybe try again the next day.” The train left without me, as boarding made no sense without access to Machu Picchu. What makes this even more frustrating is that within 30 minutes, my hotel concierge managed to secure an entrance ticket to Machu Picchu the same day, proving that the information provided by Belmond staff was misleading and incorrect. Despite this, Belmond refuses to issue a refund, even though I was unable to use the service due to their lack of clear communication. This situation is the equivalent of buying a ticket to visit the Eiffel Tower, only to be told upon arrival that the ticket does not include access to go up, and that you should stay overnight and maybe try again the next day. Such practices would be unacceptable in any properly regulated tourism industry. I lost an entire day of my trip, experienced unnecessary stress, and what should have been a highlight of my visit to Peru turned into a major disappointment. This experience reflects misleading advertising and a serious lack of customer care. I strongly advise travelers to be extremely cautious before booking.
