Hello everybody! The experience is nice. I’ve been 2 times, but the first is more impressive of course. It’s easy to book online, staff by WA and in reality is friendly and welcoming. As a short advise: better to come when the tide is going so mangroves are in the water. and earlier time. A bit hot to walk for 2-3 hours by the sun. Thanks our guide Kwai for finding lots of monkeys and interesting stories about the forest!
Our first time in Zanzibar and today we visited Jozani forest. We chose the 3 hour/middle tour which was very enjoyable; it was quite hot and humid so for those interested in doing this tour I would definitely advise bringing plenty of drinking water and appropriate shoes (the terrain is not suitable for flip flops!) We were part of a small group of just 5 people which made the tour very manageable. Our tour guide Kasi was very knowledgeable and had an excellent eye for pointing out a variety of animals - lizards, millipedes, snakes, elephant shrews, cicadas, crabs (the final part of the tour involves a short visit to the mangrove part of the forest). It was lovely seeing the Colobus monkeys and they came very close to us on their own accord. As they have no predators on the island they were not shy to get close to us! I would highly recommend a tour of Jozani forest, especially as a nice change from your typical day of water sports / time on the beach / snorkelling etc
Visiting Jozani Forest was one of the highlights of our trip to Zanzibar! The forest is breathtaking with centuries old trees, mysterious mangroves and an atmosphere that makes you feel small but deeply connected to nature. Our guide Beka was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so many fascinating facts about the plants, animals and history of the park. We were lucky enough to spot the famous red colobus monkeys, playful and unique to Zanzibar as well as a tree snake quickly slipping into the palms. It’s amazing to think that such a rich ecosystem is protected here. Jozani Forest is not just a visit, it’s an experience peaceful, wild, and unforgettable. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Zanzibar!
