Embark on a thrilling hiking adventure through one of Bulgaria’s most beautiful nature parks on this loop trail trek. Starting at Aleko Hut, situated at approximately 1750 meters above sea level, you’ll traverse the foot of Golyam Rezen Peak and Malak Rezen Peak. The hike offers stunning views of Sofia, the Balkan Mountains, and the far-reaching peaks of the Rila Mountains, making it a scenic and visually captivating experience. As you ascend, you’ll gradually approach the summit of Cherni Vrah Peak (2290 meters), where you’ll take a well-deserved rest and soak in the panoramic mountain vistas.
On the descent, the trail leads you through the Torfeno Branishte Reserve, also known as The Peat Reserve, an area rich in rare plants and wildlife. Along the way, you’ll have ample opportunities to photograph the pristine alpine landscapes, admire rock formations, and observe rare flora and fauna in their natural habitat. A very intense and fun climb, considering weather conditions.

The black peak on Sunday afternoon was a real blast with all the locals enjoying their free time on top. And the view on Sofia and the Rila mountains were breathtaking. Just wonderful!

Amazing peak in close proximity to Sofia. You can go by car or public transport. Hike is easy from Aleko and Kumata huts but get very challenging if you go from Zheleznitsa or Yarlovo.

An amazing recommendation to do if you have a free day in Sofia. With an amazing weather, lots of snow but not icy, good shoes and clothes(nothing fancy),and hiking according to our pace, we enjoyed our hike. First week of March,on Sunday morning at 11am,we took bus 66 beside paradise mall(a ride of 45mins that wasn’t boring) to the last bus stop and then commenced our hike. FYI : Bus ticket is affordable(the same ticket that you would use in the city: 1,60bgn going and 1,60bgn coming down or you can buy the 1 day ticket that cost 4bgn) We used our yearly ticket. 2)If hiking during winter, you will enjoy your hike alongside Skiers 3)If hiking during summer:You will find trees at the beginning of the trail close to the last bus stop but after about 20mins hike, you will find no trees. 4)There are coffee shop and rental shop for different equipments to enjoy your hike or ski and it’s few mins walk from the last bus stop and at the cherni vrah peak, you have a place to buy soup etc.

There is a short rout via ski run Stenata or a less steep rout via the road. The total climbing time to the top is 2-3 hours. No matter which one you choose, you will enjoy a nice energizing hiking and fantastic connection with Vitosha nature. On the peak and along the rout take as much as you want glimpses to Sofia. Follow my blog placescases.com to read about a hotel in Vitosha mountain where you can stay and start from your rout to Black Peak.
