Vitosha is a place of remarkable natural and historical significance, being the first park in Bulgaria and on the entire Balkan Peninsula. Declared a national park on October 27, 1934, and later categorized as a nature park in 2000, it now spans an impressive 27,079 hectares. Within its territory lie two pristine nature reserves – “Bistrishko Branishte” and “Torfeno Branishte” – along with the fascinating natural landmark, the Duhlata Cave. This park is a true gem for nature lovers, offering breathtaking landscapes, rich biodiversity, and countless opportunities for exploration.

During winter, Vitosha transforms into a wonderland ideal for adventurous activities like snowshoeing. We invite you to join us for an unforgettable snowshoeing experience in this magnificent mountain setting, discovering hidden gems and soaking in the beauty of the season. If weather conditions do not allow snowshoeing, your adventure doesn’t end – you’ll be upgraded for free to a winter hike to Vitosha’s Black Peak, an incredible journey lasting about 5.5 hours. Either way, this is your chance to experience Vitosha like never before!.

If you like the familiar decaying communist style, but on city center prices, this is the place for you! I would say "frozen in time", but frozen would presume that it looks better than it actually does. It's hard to have high expectations for a mountain lodge, but I don't know what happen for the last decade here. The area is filled with all sorts of trash. Broken equipment, construction materials, all kinds of other things. There is no pretense to even try and preserve the nature around, only to maximize profits, with as minimal effort as possible. I'm crushed that this is happening in such a beautiful place.

This is one of the most beautiful places in Vitosha mountain. In all seasons this place is visited by tourists. It has much places for tourism, hotels and rooms, restaurants, huts and roads. You can see all the beauty of nature and to spend your time healthy with others.

I am so glad that I went to Aleko hut during my 3-day tour of Sofia in March 2025. It is a beautiful place and the closest to the summit that can be reached by a bus (#66). I was surprised that the snow condition was still excellent for skiing when the temperature reached almost 20°C in Sofia, so I will ski next time. I took a bus up and hiked down to Bistristsa, then took a bus there to get back to my hotel. The trails are well marked. The views from the place is absolutely picturesque. I plan to stay there and ski next time when I visit Sofia if I can figure out a good way of transportation to Aleko Hut (a bus is not an option with two suitcases)

The place itself - nothing special. The view - amazing on a level I've never seen in my life. The road - indescribable. I got there on my own during a 7-hour walk. No, not easy, but, an experience that can only be had on this occasion. Recommend it like drinking water is a must!
